Lately, I’ve been really into a lot of BL manga, so I decided not to hold back 😈I am thrilled that you’ve been assigned to write for me and I look forward to reading what you have to write~
Please don’t feel a need to follow all of my prompts or to shove all of my likes into a fic as I know the list is pretty long. In fact, most sections of this letter are long by design to try and give you as many ideas for feeding into a fic. Feel free to pick and choose whatever works best for you! I believe there’s a way to collapse different headers to make the letter more easy to navigate and I did my best to incorporate that here.

In my letter, I write “Kunieda Kei” to refer to Kei's announcer/public persona and “Kei” for the private personality he only displays to Ushio.
I love, love, LOVE the dynamic between Ushio and Kei. I love the way they miss each other and yearn for each other and complement each other. I love everything about Ushio and how real he feels to me, like a person I'd actually meet out on the street. On the other hand, something about Kei's double-sided nature and how hard he works to succeed and be liked by others makes him almost cartoony to me. I adore the dichotomy of his character and all of the complexities that come with that– how Kunieda Kei handles a situation vs the real Kei. How he's so handsome and adored then turns around and bad-mouths people! 😂 I can relate to him in some ways, which makes me happy.
I love situations where Kei or Ushio have to confront feelings or new situations the other is involved with. Where they learn things about each other. My favorite moments are those where Kei asks Ushio about his work and he opens up about it. I was reading one of the light novels recently (or an extra, actually,) and Ushio said there wasn't much point to telling Kei about it because it would be hard to describe what goes on in his head. But I wanna know!! Kei rants about his job to Ushio all the time and Ushio loves to listen to it but I want there to be a day where it's about Ushio for once and he's the one monologuing XD (And while on the subject of jobs, I would love to know more about both of theirs, though absolutely Kei’s in particular. I have some friends in TV and the whole process wows and amazes me!)
I go feral over those rare, tender moments where Kei says how he's really feeling and Ushio accepts those feelings. Ushio knows deep down how Kei truly feels but I do enjoy those “all is lost” moments where Kei is forced to either be upfront and honest about something he's vulnerable about or he loses everything. And he always shows up at the final hour before it’s too late to patch things up with Ushio.
Some ideas:
- Kei is confronted with a situation where he has to address his relationship with Ushio to other people or is caught with Ushio in public
- A date (and sex) with Ushio and Kunieda Kei where Kei is in his sweet character the whole time. Maybe Ushio asked him to do it and after enough puppy-dog eyes Kei caved and now he’s regretting it when Ushio deliberately pushes his buttons or says things to try and provoke Kei into showing his true nature. Does Ushio find it weird? Maybe at the end of the night he feels bad for putting Kei through what he knows is an uncomfortable situation and Kei ends up getting him back somehow.
- In general I think it'd be fun to see more situations where Ushio helps Kunieda Kei stand up for himself when he has to be polite for his public image
- I love moments where Kei's and Ushio's work intersects or when one discovers the other's work around the city or at home (such as a project Ushio has been working on for the news station airs or Ushio sees Kei making a surprise appearance on a product at the grocery store or something).
- Literally any combination of the likes lists provided at the top but especially anything that puts Ushio in a position to tease Kei and bicker with him 🥺🥺
- Could you imagine getting dicked down in a studio after hours or Ushio indulging in humiliating Kei using one of Kei's fancy ties? 👀Kei wears suits all the time and I adore the thought of him wearing one mussed while Ushio does unspeakable things to him

This builds upon the above section but trying to be more specific to the rest of the light novel series, so please do read the movie section as well. I've also been slowly working through this 600+ page document on scribd that includes extras (“Off Air” volumes that I can’t find official English translations of at the time of writing this).
(For some reason, reading it on my laptop will get drowned in ads but my phone is a pretty alright experience, even with no scribd account.)
- Ushio seems to run a bit of a jealous streak when it comes to Kunieda Kei and I would savor another situation like the one we got where Kei had lost his memory and the new sports announcer Tatsuki tried to make a pass at him. I like seeing Ushio fired up and protective of Kei. It would also be fun to see a situation where maybe Kunieda Kei encounters a classmate from his past who still harbors an old crush on him and Ushio has to be the one to tell them to back off since Kei is in his “public” persona and can't do it himself.
- In one of the shorts in “Off Air,” Kei and Ushio visited Kei's family for New Year's and I want more of that!! Kei told his parents they were dating and istg I almost fainted. But it was so short and I could definitely do with 10k more of Kei being Kei in front of not just Ushio but also his parents or Tatsuki! And also more of Ushio getting to know Kei’s family
- USHIO AND KEI LIVING TOGETHER!! Hello??? The domesticity of it all!!! At the very end of volume 3, they mention how it’d be a good idea to put up a separating curtain between Kei and Ushio’s apartments in the event that Ushio ever gets guests. Well, what happens when he gets guests? Does anyone question the fact that Kei lives next door? What if it’s Shitara-san, who is familiar with both of them? Even just in general, what does Tatsuki think of the development? How much does he make fun of Kei for it at work?
- I adored all the drama that came with the 3 volumes but the Off Air stuff is also so addicting to read. I LOVE the fluff and the lower stakes. (And the more frequent sex scenes, lol!) The author writes a lot of tropes I adore, like seeing how Ushio and Kei care for the other when he’s sick, the casualness of going home to Ushio’s bed or texting him whenever. Tatsuki teasing them and the little things they do for each other like indulge in favorite foods or trying to ask more personal questions every once in a blue moon to establish that deeper connection with each other. Makes me absolutely feral. Oh, Kei’s worried about Ushio and Ushio knows so he picks on Kei to show him he’s actually totally fine and there’s nothing to worry about? Oh, Ushio rents out a hotel room and takes Kei somewhere special because Ushio’s answer to stress is to do something spontaneous while Kei’s is to stick to routine? Oh, they casually tell each other “I love you?” You want my heart to melt!!!!!!! Just get married already, dammit!!
I Cannot Reach You (Manga)
Requesting: Ashiya Kakeru/Oohara Yamato
THE LOVE CONFESSIONS. The way they slowly build their relationship up together. The cool, quiet type with numerous girls crushing on him who already has his eyes set on a certain someone!!! CHILDHOOD BEST FRIENDS TO LOVERS HELLOOOO!!! “I thought I’d be content seeing you happy from afar but I realize now that I want to be the one to make you happy” sort of love confessions! I gobble it all up! I’m currently through volume 7 where Kakeru confesses to Yamato (and then Yamato, of course, confesses right back) and can’t wait for more.
The whole manga is stuffed with many classic tropes, from miscommunication to the obligatory field trip and there was even that chapter where Yamato lost his memory while recovering from a cold. I really feel for poor Kakeru jealous of Yamato’s perceived success while Yamato’s actually still yearning for the one thing he can’t have. The internal conflict within both characters and between each other is so delicate yet relatable. Feeling like you’re not enough stacked up to the person beside you… feeling like they’ll have something you can’t ever achieve but want so badly… ahh, I can’t get enough of it.
One of the main drivers for my interest in this manga is also the school aspect. I have plenty of inspiration from various other shows and movies (especially of the Ghibli variety) that make me yearn for more of that slice-of-life goodness.
- It’s the final semester before graduation and things are hectic. Yamato and Kakeru have started dating but they’ve hardly had time to meet outside of classes, with Yamato deciding he’d like to apply to one of the most prestigious universities in the country. The pressure is on for Kakeru, who’s worried not only about keeping up with his own sub-par studies but fears over the future of their relationship if he doesn’t score well, and even then, where he thinks he’d like to go. Should he aim high in the hopes of getting into the same school as Yamato or should he give up and accept his place in Yamato’s shadow…? To make matters worse, Yamato’s pushing for their relationship to go to the next level!
- Kakeru and Yamato are soulmates. But neither has ever realized it because they’ve been close ever since they were kids and because of that, the connection developed in an unusual way (or mutated, idk). Such as:
- For soulmate link where the person’s first words are engraved onto their skin, it has been so long since they exchanged those first words that they simply forgot what they said to each other at all.
- For shared emotion/pain, maybe Yamato has sussed out that Kakeru could be his soulmate but says nothing out of denial while Kakeru can’t be sure because Yamato is so good at concealing his emotions.

Please accept the above fanart I’ve made myself (and technically still haven’t finished) of my Genshin OTP!!!
Once I started learning more about Xiao, I started connecting dots between him and Scara and then found that I couldn’t stop. Wouldn’t it be interesting if the yaksha who thinks he doesn’t feel anything and the amnesia-addled wanderer who feels too much taught each other some things about their emotions? What if Xiao fell in love with that puppet when he had no memories, then that puppet went off and got his memories back? Or what if Xiao met that puppet when he was a bloodthirsty harbinger, or waaay farther back, before Scara even had his first name? What if Scaramouche met Xiao before Xiao was enslaved by a certain god? There’s so much potential for canon divergence!! There’s no singular way to write their dynamic because it all depends on when they meet and that possibility is addicting to me, so I’m always returning to them and wanting to experiment with new scenarios.
I want to see them fall in love across universes. Or fight and bicker like oil and water before both softening up to each other when they realize just how much the other has gone through. It would be difficult, though, given how antisocial they both are, which is why I’ve definitely written their dynamic as amnesia-addled Wanderer/Xiao before or the bad boy (Xiao) falling for the badder boy (Scaramouche) who is on an assignment for the Harbingers at the time and Scara falls in love with Xiao because he’s hot or some other surface-level thing before realizing the feelings run deeper than that XD (and Xiao, of course, just liking that he has some company and someone who doesn’t care about his karmic debt).
Modern AUs would be so much fun, too. I’m at that point with this pairing where even the most banal coffeeship AU could be interesting because it’s them. What is your Xiao like? How does he fall in love with Scaramouche or vice versa? I would be more than chuffed to see your answer.
Some modern ideas:
- Tattoo artist and florist? Hello???? ONE of them has tattoos and I would NOT mind if they were both coated in them, tbh. (And then they explore each other’s bodies to find the rest!!)
- The quiet classmate Xiao who all the other students are too scared to talk to but it turns out he’s just shy and the obnoxious Scaramouche who also has no friends imposes on Xiao and becomes friends with him because he’s lonely
- The handsome, famous photographer Xiao and the hot-headed model Scaramouche who everybody hates to work with because he’s so rude and prideful but for some reason Xiao has no trouble handling him
More ideas because they make me unwell:
- In general, I always go feral for a Xiao/Scaramouche dynamic where they give each other special treatment they don’t extend to anyone else
- Shogun!Scaramouche AU with royal vibes and lots of knives at people’s throats 👀 Maybe Xiao makes an attempt at Scaramouche’s life and he fails. I would love some hate sex thrown in somehwere. Underhanded dealings and secret trysts and fighting and all that!
- I have a lot of trouble realistically writing a pairing that is rude or mean to each other (particularly because I start feeling too bad for poor Xiao) but I would adore an enemies-to-lovers sort of situation where they’re at each other’s throats and making attempts on the other’s life 😂 (see above lol).
- I want to make it clear that even though writing Xiao all banged up is hard for me, that’s why it’s hurt/comfort and it makes the comfort 1,000 times even more thrilling and cute!! (And actually, while I’m thinking about it, dracyphilia with a sobbing Xiao OR Wanderer has a sort of appeal to it!)
- The archon Morax is on an assignment to Inazuma and Xiao tags along for security. He intends to stick to Morax like glue and not go off, but one evening, Morax encourages him to take a tour of the islands while he’s in some meetings and Xiao comes across Tatarasuna where a certain puppet awaits…
- I have a few fics I’ve written of them (one, two, three) that I would love to have continuations of or be inspired for more fic. They’re all long (the third is a longfic) but I think they all encapsulate the sort of dynamic I love most from them
- I don’t really have a preference for which Scaramouche is paired with Xiao though I have a slight preference toward Wanderer for canonverse fic. I like a boi who has gone through The Horrors™ and already come out the other side. But Xiao being all soft with Kabukimono is adorable and Xiao hating the trauma-riddled Scaramouche is 🔥spicy 🔥. I also rarely ever see fic of the puppet’s transition from Kabukimono to Scaramouche (I just call that “Kunikuzushi”) or Kuronushi (of the Five Kasen from that poetry event/Irodori Festival that I missed) and would love to see more coverage of that time in Wanderer’s life!
- One day, a wanderer appears at Wangshu Inn declaring boldly that Xiao knows him. Xiao has never met the man before, but at the stranger’s is determined to prove him wrong.
- What if Xiao had an adeptal ability to travel back in time? Who would he meet? How could he change history?

Ogi’s Summer Break
Requesting: Haruto Ogi/Shinya Tago
This manga could have stopped at having representation of a blind character but no, it had to go and give us a character who wears skirts and paints his nails and drives me insane in the most positive way!!! Like, two volumes was not enough. I wanted it to be *at least* twenty more chapters before ending with, “they moved in together.” Not that I’m not overjoyed for them but I thought, “Give me more drama! Give me the slowburn and cheesy romance tropes like misunderstandings and miscommunication, etc. etc.!” I know some people find such things repetitive or cumbersome, but honestly, it’s really thrilling to see how a character acts in different situations and how that develops their character and relationship. That’s why I love overdone tropes with refreshing new takes— it doesn’t matter if the characters are doing taxes. If you have the right characters and the right author, it could be interesting. (And I mean, c’mon. Tago would make taxes interesting!)
The manga had so many timeskips!! We get a lot of thought bubbles that say, “I’ve hung out with Tago four times now” or “This is my third date with Tago.” It’s ripe with opportunities to fill in those gaps with dialog and cute hand-holding and all that good stuff. If not writing missing scene fic, then I think there are also plenty of opportunities to write post-canon fic in a university setting. Living together presents its own set of new problems but also a chance for Tago to find more autonomy and independence than he ever did with his family, and as someone who is blind, he no doubt will have challenges to overcome and a new lifestyle to have to adjust to.
- I would love anything written from Tago’s perspective. Give me long, beautiful paragraphs about the other senses— worldbuild what it is like for someone without sight. Or give me dialog-heavy passages focused on just talking because there’s nothing else to see. I wrote a oneshot with a series of scenarios ranging from doing things like folding laundry to Ogi painting Tago’s nails which could be expanded into an assortment of scenes for a fuller fic. I would even enjoy a canon rewrite of the manga but from Tago's perspective and stretching into post-canon, depending on how much is needed to achieve the wordcount.
- Extra emphasis on the concept of exploring Japanese culture: After a stressful first year living together, Ogi and Tago arrange for a three-month summer vacation in the countryside / seaside village / etc. It’s a big adjustment for Tago, who isn’t used to the steep streets or the unfamiliar scents or the bustling evening market practically out their window. He has to adjust to the layout of the boarding house where they’re staying, which is accompanied by other boarders (who Tago definitely hasn’t bumped shoulders with before). But all the fun they have outweighs the stress — day trips to rare and popular spots alike, evenings out in nature, nights tangled in each other’s arms trying to stifle the sound of their lovemaking to not wake the roommates and falling asleep to the sound of crickets at night. In summary: As much “Ghibli vibes” as you can cram into one fic.
- Also, pls consider: Tago or Ogi wanting the trip to end in a marriage proposal and all the complications / thoughts that come with that throughout the trip.
- Tago’s worked hard and he’s made it into the university of his dreams. He’s moved in with Ogi, who is everything he could ask for in a partner. However, Tago develops worries he’ll fall behind in his classes (due to them simply being rigorous or not accomodating his disability) that leads to not having enough time with Ogi at home. When another student steps up to the plate offering to help with notetaking, Tago accepts. Ogi is less than enthused, eventually telling Tago of his insecurities and jealousy whenever Tago spends time with a classmate who has been apparently flirting with him the whole time; he’s just been too oblivious to notice.

⭐I do not mind having Hirosawa and Tsubaki included in the story and even having some romantic drama with them so long as anything sexual or established in terms of the relationship are kept to the requested ship.
In my letter, I refer to Kaname Tasuku as “Tasukun” since this is what they call him in the Eng translation I own. I also refer to Anonymous-san as “Someone-san”.
Okay so like hear me out. I read Our Dreams at Dusk about a year ago and loved it to bits. I adored the variety of representation provided in its four volumes and the last volume’s ending moved me to tears. (It still does every time.) I love the characters and the community and the nuance of there being no perfect answer to these difficult questions surrounding gender identity, romantic and sexual attraction, etc. When I read Boy Meets Maria, my mind kept pulling back in the direction of Our Dreams at Dusk. How would Someone-san deal with Arima if she encountered him? How would the people at the Drop-In Center learn of his complicated history with his gender? How could he begin to explore it with these other people? Would he go by different pronouns? (I would LOVE if Arima started going by they/them or he/she/they pronouns!!!!) I loved reading Boy Meets Maria but it left me absolutely aching for more time with Arima Yuu. I felt like a starved orphan when the experience was over simply begging for more food!
The setting as actors on a stage is particularly perfect for Arima given the many moments it either assists or interferes with his exploration of his gender identity. I would have loved to see more moments like that, more details about what it takes to act on stage or even aspects of the production I’d never considered before, like preparing props/the scene and casting actors. How long does it take? Since this is a high school operation, I am assuming the students have to prepare all of this themselves? If he begins visiting the Drop-In Center after classes, does anyone else begin wondering where he goes? Does he fall behind on his acting or is he able to strike a balance?
- After the canon events of Boy Meets Maria, Arima is still deep in the process of exploring his gender identity. Emboldened by Hirosawa and the others’ support, he wants to try a male role next, and begins rehearsing and acting with the rest of the drama club, much to their astonishment. They all say he’s good, that they didn’t know he had such talent for the stage. But the easier the script rolls off his tongue, the more he feels like he’s lost something. A part of him misses the dresses, it misses the ribbons and the boys’ heart eyes every time he danced onstage. He doesn’t know what to do— he thought he’d left that part behind or at least convinced it to occupy a smaller part of his life. But Arima is quickly discovering that being true to himself isn’t going to be that easy. That is when he discovers the Drop-In Center, his first time with people like him, who understand that it’s more complicated and are able to provide him with the resources he needs to figure out exactly what he’d like to call himself. (Whether that be “Boy who dresses like a girl sometimes” or nonbinary, genderfluid, etc.)
- Rewrite of either canon from a period where one meets the other while in the middle of his drama. Arima finding the Drop-In Center at the beginning of the school semester around the same time he’s meeting Hirosawa; Tasukun at some point attending one of the plays where Arima is featured and he becomes a secret fan; Someone-san speaking to Arima first and Tasukun being the one who is still “new” to the Drop-In Center after Arima has been there for some time.
- Arima discovers the Drop-In Center one day after skipping rehearsals, saying he already has all his lines memorized. He’s in crisis over his identity, and that is when Someone-san appears, as always, with a popsicle and one sentence: “You can say whatever you want to me but I won’t listen.” After pouring Arima’s heart out to her about his gender identity issues, she leaves, and he follows her back to the Drop-In Center. Cue a host of found family, including a man who also grew up knowing what it was like to have to wear dresses and a little boy who might be able to take Arima’s old stash off his hands, a lesbian couple who might just have everything Arima wants in his future, and a boy not too different from him who acts like he wants nothing to do with Arima but he knows differently. Never before has Arima felt so accepted and never before has he wanted to freeze time and live happily at the Center forever.
- For years, Tasukun’s had drifting daydreams and sexual fantasies about other guys. It’s a natural part of growing up, after all, but he can’t help but yearn for more sometimes.
