This manga is such a raw, genuine depiction of what it’s like to be discriminated against just because of who you are or who you love. I’m particularly a sucker for found family and the way the characters at the Drop-In Center support each other.

I would love more exploration into any of my requested characters. Feel free to include others, too! I am not averse to exploring more of Kaname and Tsubaki’s romantic relationship, including all the highs and lows they’d experience with their own personal struggles with their identities (and how other people would treat them if they ever found out they were together.)

I was really hoping the author would give Misora Shuuji's storyline more of a resolution, so I would love to see it explored more Will they ever revisit the Drop-In Center/become a regular again? Maybe Kaname builds up a relationship with them again. I understand that they’re still young and figuring things out at their own pace, so seeing what that looks like would be interesting.

Anonymous-san is also of huge interest to me. How does she feel about the Drop-In Center? What was it like when she first established it? Is she magic? How many kids has she saved in the past? It feels like she really has a desire to help people like herself who desire community and support from people who have gone through similar struggles.

I am in absolute LOVE over the chaotic energy of this short film and how dramatic some of the characters are! There is so much potential to expand the story to include more misadventures. We still don’t even really know who Sacha is, so I would love more exploration into what sort of person he is.
I was only able to include four people in my request signup, but I would love to see the whole troupe included if the fancy hits you.

— Why the heck was Sacha late, anyway? Retell the story from his perspective.

— I would love to see more of the characters’ relationships developed, such as Ami and Jun as cousins, or Ami and Ida dating. (Of course, this is all stuff I found out from the directors posting on their socials.)

— Jun’s laziness getting him into trouble with Prim and the others, or exploring how his calm-headedness balances out some of the other members’ nerves, like Novi or Ida.

— What are Sacha and Novi like as (troupe) partners? Novi seems so nervous all the time. How might the others be able to calm his anxieties? Was Novi paired with Sacha because he balances him out? Or was it for some other reason (like pairing the most senior with the rookie?)

— I interpret Sacha as being pretty cool-headed, like Jun. Do they get along well? What is their relationship like, or Sacha’s relationship with anyone for that matter? Does he get a stern talking-to from Prim after the performance because he was late, or does she let it slide because he’s a really good performer?

— Ships are welcome! As my likes mention, I love M/M but I ‘m really pretty open to most (so long as we, to our knowledge, know they’re not related. (Like Sacha/Novi, Sacha/Jun, Sacha/Prim, and Ami/Ida.)

I ADORE the masterful way the story diverges and converges at different parts of the movie. I really enjoyed rewatching it and picking up all the things I hadn’t the first time, because this is definitely one of those movies you need to watch again to discover things you hadn’t before, and savor the twists even more.

The magical and fantastical elements of the movie are so much fun! I wonder if there’s any ofter gods the black-haired maiden might manage to run into (similar to the God of Colds or God of Used Book Markets.) I would not be surprised if karma or fate played a heavy hand in how things played out, too.

— What if the black-haired maiden stayed in contact with Highuchi after the night that felt never-ending? What kind of trouble could they get into? Does Senpai eventually overhear about it and have to come in to fix things (or, more likely, make things worse?)

— What happens to the Director, Don Underwear, and Noriko Soda? I support any variety of ship with these, and love triangles/beakups/polyamorous relationship are A-OK so long as everyone is happy at the end.

— It’s revealed that the Director is down to crossdress, and this has led him to catching affection from both girls and guys. How does he feel about that? Is that intentional? Has he ever critically evaluated what this might mean about his personal interpretation of his gender identity, or is it just for fun? I think it’d be really fun for him to learn more about himself from his crossdressing any what insecurities or confidence he gets from it.
— What are Senpai and the black-haired maiden like in a relationship? Do they run into any more shenanigans? What about insecurities or misunderstandings? Or, on the other side, the joys that come with a new relationship? The black-haired maiden in particular seems like she has a very idyllic idea of what love could look like.

I need, need, NEED more Hohsalle content in my life. He is the most beautiful, most intelligent mans I have seen in a while, and he has captured my whole heart. I love the little glimpses we get to see into his humorous, snarky side. He’s authoritative, too, which doesn’t hurt! I was really hoping he would have an opportunity to connect with Van more, so those interactions are very welcome. (Yes, I ship them, if you want to go that route!)

I learned that the author (who wrote the book the movie is based off) is a professor of ethnology (study of everyday people). After rewatching the movie again, I noticed that influence more, particularly in the difference between Aquafaese and Zolian cultures. I think the imperialist/war side of the plot is interesting, but hard personally for me to write well. The relationship between Aquafa and Zol is so bloodied, but who doesn’t love political intrigue?!
Gotta be honest that I liked the ending, but I was wanting more! Van told Hohsalle he wanted to see Yuna grew up, but then put himself in a position where he couldn’t. (Not easily, anyway.) Canon divergence at any point is welcome. Give them a better ending!

Another thing I hadn’t considered until a rewatch is the countries’ reliances on medicine versus Gods to heal their ailments, and how the mittsual is considered a “curse” vs a “disease.” There’s this divide between magic/divinity and irl medicine that I wish had been explored more. I was particularly peeved that Hohsalle never seemed that interested in Van’s spiritual journey or relationship with ossam. The biggest thing we get is this line: “I've seen so many die because of the mittsual. Inside of this man, I wonder what face it's chosen to wear now.” But I don’t feel like he really followed through with discovering an answer.

Anyway, witnessing Hohsalle work and discover new things about how the world or mittsual work would be fun, or even him developing his relationship with Yuna, Van, etc. I especially enjoy moments where he’s a little pathetic, like the fight with the stilt-walkers where he got shoved in the mud a lot. It’s fun to see the duality of his more composed self then him fighting for his life out in the wild.
